My business has no website: this is what it loses every month

Not a marketing talk: an old-fashioned sum of what happens when someone looks for you and can't find you.

If your business is doing well without a website, I'll tell you something uncomfortable: that's precisely why it's hard to see what you're losing. Nobody calls to tell you "today I searched for your service and ended up at your competitor". The loss is invisible, silent and daily.

What a customer does before calling you

  1. Searches your name on Google — today almost nobody walks in cold.

  2. Checks hours, photos and reviews — the promise you make before speaking.

  3. Compares you with two or three more — there's always a bench.

  4. Decides — without having heard a word from you yet.

"But word of mouth…"

Word of mouth still works — what has changed is what people do with the recommendation. They used to call straight away; now they type your name into the search box. If nothing solid shows up, your best customer's recommendation competes on equal terms with your competitor's ad. Word of mouth needs somewhere to land.

Not having a website doesn't cost money once: it costs a little every day, without any invoice ever arriving to make it visible.

How much do you lose? There's no universal honest figure: it depends on your sector and your town. What you can measure today, for free, is your real situation:

your self-diagnosis in three moves

  • Search your service + your town — exactly as a customer in a hurry would.

  • Count which position you come up in — if you come up at all.

  • Look at yourself as a stranger — hours and phone number in plain sight, or do they have to dig.
